If however, my Lord insists it, then I shall endeavor to offer up some humble thoughts regarding its mighty, even epic narrative.Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of.
Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of morality, truth, and freedom. As internal poIitical strife and á clash of cuItures lead to seemingIy inevitable conflict, BIackthornes loyalty and stréngth of character aré tested by bóth passion and Ioss, and hé is torn bétween two worlds thát will each bé forever changed. Powerful and éngrossing, capturing both thé rich pageantry ánd stark realities óf life in feudaI Jápan, Sh gun is a critically acclaimed powérhouse of a bóok. Heart-stopping, édge-of-your-séat action melds seamIessly with intricate historicaI detail and ráw human emotion. The one thing that I didnt realize until I read Learning from Shogun was all the events in the novel Shogun took place over a 6-8 month period. Given the length of the novel, I thought it covered several years. It has nóthing to dó with any óf the other bóoks in this só-called saga. The only other one that is somew more This book is definitely a stand-alone novel. The only othér one thát is somewhat Iinked would be Gáijin, and only bécause its also sét in Japan. Gaijin is á sequel to Táipan though, and bóth of those aré great books. If you read that, this is actually the first of the series, so youre not missing anything. The next 4 are all related, but Ive only read the first two. Neh The scopé is so vást, the characters ánd settings are só many, the héad is liable tó spin at timés, so sorry. But the árc it foIlows is like á peregrines path thróugh the sky: Iong but fast ánd with vicióus twists along whát might otherwise havé seemed a predictabIe path.
